New Dolomite Plant & New Lime calcination Plant are units under SMS, DSP.

Lime is considered as the most important raw material in BOF steel making, next to hot metal. The role of good quality lime (average reactivity = 350 and LW = 2.5%) is t.o fix the acidic compounds of undesirable metals and metalloids from the metallic bath to slag. These will protect the basic lining of the Convertor from the attack of acidic compounds. The production of quality steel and lining life of Convertor is largely dependent on adequate use of proper quality lime.

New Lime Calcination Plant (NLCP) of Durgapur Steel Plant ensure consistent supply of quality lime to BOF shop. This plant is located between the central avenue and BOF shop along the Ingot Street.

NDP is an important Unit installed in the facility of Steel Melting Shop (SMS) under Phase – 1 Modernization / Expansion . It is situated in between NLCP & CEM (north side of petrol pump and south side of HT – 07 A). NDP is established to meet the consistent demand of high quality CD (with respect to reactivity and LOI) for converter

Calcined Dolomite (CD) is an important raw material in BOF steel making. The good quality CD (Average Reactivity – 250 (4 N HCL) and Loss On Ignition (LOI) – 3.5 %) plays an important role in fixing the acidic compounds of undesirable metals & metalloids from the metallic bath to slag and by doing this it protects the basic lining of the converter from the attack of acidic compounds and by doing so it helps to enhance the lining life of converter. The production of quality steel and lining life of converter is largely dependent on adequate use of proper quality of CD.
