UT Manuals of CCP-SMS

Cutting Area Control Station is an integral part of BLOOM CASTER MACHINE. Its area starts at the end of cooling zone and it ends in Discharge Roller Table. This is the area where blooms are cut in desired length with the help of OXY PROPANE CUTTING SYSTEM. The system is composed of a cutting torch mounted on a trolley and driven by the strand during cutting. The return is performed by an AC gear motor. The cutting torch is equipped with automatic flame regulation system. The blooms will be cut into 3.4m to 11 m length with the help of oxy-propane flame. The cut is controlled by the signals from the PLC of bloom length measuring device.

The cutting area operation can be controlled from Cutting Area Control Station as well as Main Control Desk, But we must control this area from Cutting Area Control Station due to its clear visibility.

The objective of this manual is to give necessary knowledge to the operators required to carry out their jobs correctly, safely, and in optimum time.

In a continuous production line like CCP, smooth and efficient operation is possible only if all the equipments are operated correctly and safely. Any breakdown will result in huge loss of man-hours and hence production hampering the growth of the organization. The bloom caster is a highly automated and sophisticated machine, which requires close and experienced supervision. This modernized plant brings in improved productivity, better energy consumption and also superior quality of products. The varieties in sections and lengths will be of great demand in the market.

The objective of this manual is to enable the senior technicians / technicians working here to acquire necessary knowledge and skill to operate the equipment correctly, safely and effectively.

CCP dispatch is a section of SMS department. The dept. starts with mixer which acts as storage bank for hot metal from Blast furnace. Then it comes, the convertors ( 3nos) where the primary steelmaking is done. Then alloy addition is done during tapping and sent for secondary steelmaking. Secondary steelmaking takes place in the Ladle Refining Furnaces (3 nos). The special steel for W&A plant are sent through VAD route for preparation for final grade of steel. When the final steel has been prepared it is sent to CCP for casting. As soon as the casting is finished the prime products are transferred to the roller tables for cooling. Almost cooled products are then sent in front of marking machine. The cast number is printed on the products and sent for stacking. The electromagnetic cranes of D’E’ bay and F’G’ bay stacks the products into its designated cells according to their grades and sizes. PPCD gives the size and grade for loading on the previous day of loading, accordingly the wagons are received and loading is planned. According to the plan of PPCD , the products are then loaded in the wagons or trailers using electromagnetic cranes for dispatch through rail or by road. Before dispatch the numbers of products and grades against their cast number are entered into SAP system and gate pass in generated. The internal delivery of billets and blooms are done according to the requirement of mills by stock transfer in SAP system.

Objective of UT manual:

This manual will enable the learner to understand the detailed standard operating procedure for storage and despatch of continuous cast billets & blooms and carry out the required jobs.
