The integrated steel plant operations are highly raw material intensive. Generally speaking, 1 tons of steel output requires handling and transportation of around 3 tons of raw material. Therefore, logistics play a critical role in determining the operational efficiency and cost structure of a steel producer. Indian railways is a key player in the logistics of raw material circuit as the bulk carrier of raw material like iron ore, coal (both imported and domestic), limestone, dolomite from mines and ports to the steel plants. As the steel plants are in the process of ramping up production, importance of logistics and handling of raw material has increased significantly.

In view of the above, it has been decided to organize a Workshop on “improving logistics in raw material circuit”. The workshop focussed on issues that affect logistics in the raw material circuit.

Participants from Raw Material, Traffic, Raw Material Handling Plant (unloading section), Coal Handling Plant (Tippler area), Raw Material Division (Loading operation at Mines), Logistics and Infrastructure Organisation
