The METALLIFEROUS MINES REGULATIONS (MMR) is Formed under section 57 of the Mines Act, 1952, the MMR 1961 published 18th October, 1960. The MMR 1961 replaces both the MMR 1926 and the Mysore Gold Mines Regulations-1953 to deal with matters for the prevention of possible dangers in mining in India.
The MMR 1961 has come to its present form by Transition through amendment in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1984, 1985 & 1989. The major amendment had in the year 1966, 1985 & 1989.
The draft Metalliferous Mines Regulations, 2018 was uploaded on DGMS website for the information of and comments/ feedback/ suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby on or before 02nd November, 2018. Based on the feedback received the committee submitted the report and thereafter on 20th February, 2020 vide Gazette Notification GSR 138(E) MMR 2019 has been published by Government of India, for seeking stake holders comments. It seems this will be final draft for the New MMR and will replace the MMR 1961.
