प्रगति (Pragati)” – Job Contract Specific Training Programme

Pragati is a structured training initiative designed specifically for Contract Workers (CWs) of WRM & Bar Mill to strengthen their job knowledge, safety awareness, and operational effectiveness.

The programme focuses on providing clear understanding of:

  • Contract-specific job roles and responsibilities
  • Shopfloor practices and work standards
  • Safety procedures and compliance
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Common operational mistakes and their prevention
  • Downtime reduction techniques
  • Practical, hands-on job know-how

With a strong emphasis on Safety, Productivity & Quality, the programme uses PPTs, visual/videos, interactive discussions, and feedback sessions to ensure better engagement and learning outcomes.

Overall, Pragati aims to enhance competence, improve performance, and build a safer and more productive work culture among contract workers of WRM & Bar Mill.

Gyanshaala(ज्ञानशाला) is a structured, shop-floor–centric intervention for Non Executives and Contract Workers (CWs), with focus on Safety, Multiskilling, Productivity, and Operational Discipline. The employees trained at JNTVTI/SNTI, Tata Steel and NSTI, Howrah are faculty members/instructors for this intervention. The program follows a blended delivery model comprising:

2.5 hours of structured practical inputs (Theoretical inputs with case studies /videos and Bilingual PPT )
1.0 hour of hands-on exposure at shop floor (Actual work environment – such as Mills / CO & CC etc.)

The program has already been rolled out at Mills (WRM, Bar Mill and USM) and CO & CC areas, covering modules such as Rigging Practices, Electrical Safety, and Gas Cutting & Welding, and is being used as a scalable template for CW upskilling, in other departments as well.

Aim of the Course:

The training program aims to enhance the analytical, reporting, and data management capabilities of HR employees by equipping them with intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, enabling them to handle large datasets efficiently, generate insightful reports, and support data-driven decision-making.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the program, participants will be able to:
• Apply advanced Excel tools and functions to clean, organize, and analyze HR-related data efficiently.
• Use lookup, logical, and conditional formulas to create dynamic and error-free reports.
• Design professional reports and visual dashboards using charts, PivotTables, and PivotCharts for effective data presentation.
• Validate and protect data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and security.
• Automate routine HR tasks through the use of advanced Excel features and integration with MS Word (Mail Merge).

In our Plant, we undertake various welding related activities every day. While most of the jobs involve light fabrication related welding, the most critical ones are related to maintenance.

Often, maintenance engineers have to grapple with repair welding on cracks developing on unknown materials, difficult to weld materials, welding of dissimilar metals and welding on critical equipment / components. Sometimes, the cracks reappear leading to frequent disruption of operations.

Also, with a huge investment coming up in Plant Expansion Projects, knowing the essentials of welding will ensure taking the right decisions in inspection of structures.

The program “WELDING ESSENTIALS” is designed to make executives aware of various welding processes with focus on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Manual Metal Arc Welding), welding fundamentals, equipment, electrode selection, basic welding metallurgy, procedures for various metals, weld defects (identification, causes, remedy), welding inspection, codes, standards and mostly importantly, Safety in Welding.
