A Community of Practice  can evolve naturally because of the members' common interest in a particular domain or area, or it can be created deliberately with the goal of gaining knowledge related to a specific field. It is through the process of sharing information and experiences with the group that members learn from each other, and have an opportunity to develop personally and professionally (Lave & Wenger 1991).

 This platform is an opportunities for all practitioners in SAIL to connect to fellow practitioners and share knowledg, problems and solutions.

 The first community of practice  to  get started is the CoP on Hydraulics but we will add more  as people volanteer to steer more areas like blast furnaces, coke making , steel making and so on.

This community of practice is a platform for all HRD professionals in SAIL to share their knowledge, resources, achievements, and also seek  support from their peers.

the issue of greater connect within the HRD  community has been emphasized by Chairman SAIL also in his interaction with the HRD collective on 29th December 2017, and was further discussed in a meeting of ED(HRD) with HoTs on 20th January 2019
